The sun is (sort of) shining, summer is upon us and we now have a few months completely unsupervised to spend this academic year’s last instalment of student loan. And what better way to spend your summer than living it up at a music festival? Glastonbury, Reading, T in the Park, Beach Break – each one absolutely filled to the brim with great artists ready to play you a selection of their hits as you bop along filled with cider and sheer joy! However, festivals can be a tricky business unless you’re sensible (hard, I know); but if you do it properly you could have the best time of your life. So here is a list of festival dos and donts…stick to these and you’re guaranteed to have an unbelievable festival experience!
Do
- Budget your money. Not cool if you spend all your allowance on booze on the first day and then can’t eat.
- Take some food you can keep in your tent (just in case a plan fails).
- Take some alcohol ready – this will save you stacks of money!
- Tent share with your mates – it gets cold at night and you’ll be a lot safer in a group.
- Look after your valuables - festival campsites are rife for theft so keep an eye out.
- Pace yourself – you’re only there for a few days and won’t want to miss your favourite band by being too hungover.
- Drink lots of water if the weather’s hot. Keeping yourself hydrated will stop you from getting poorly.
- Take wet wipes (self-explanatory).
- Stick together – thousands of people attend these things and you don’t want to be wandering around on your own! Make sure you have a meeting place in case you get lost.
- Check when all your favourite acts are playing so you can make sure you don’t miss them!
- Get insurance on your phone and camera before you go.
Don’t
- Feel like you have to embody the stereotypical festival hipster look – just enjoy yourself.
- Get drunk too early and have to be put to bed and miss all the fun.
- Wander off! Not cool.
- Invite strangers to your tent – this one sounds fairly obvious but you can’t be too careful.
- Forget to apply suntan lotion if it’s warm!
- Forget to wash (even if it is with a baby wipe..no one else needs to smell that).
- Forget to take pictures so you can relive the moment again and again.
And there you have it... an absolute fool-proof guide to having the best time at a festival. So stick on your wellies and go wild! As the old Chinese proverb says…YOLO.
