With employers increasingly turning to experience rather than qualifications when whittling down job applications, many fresh graduates face the prospect of unemployment. As an undergraduate with, admit it, a lot of free time on your hands, now is the perfect time to fill up your CV with placements and stints at companies/events that are relevant to your field.
The tough thing has always been actually securing some time as, to a lot of companies, you’re an unwanted nuisance who isn’t worth all the paperwork. Luckily there is one website which is designed just for people in your situation.
It’s called GoThinkBig and is backed by O2 and Bauer Media; if you click on their opportunities section they have a constantly updated stream of jobs and work experience placements. Their demographic is 16-25 year olds and they’ve done all the paperwork for you, so all you need to do is apply with your CV and fill in some details and you’re away.
The openings are county-wide and range from media to law to HR – they could be a two-day job working at an event or a fortnight placement that will allow you to get a foot in the door of your chosen career.
The high profile connections with O2 and Bauer mean you’ll get to work at places that hold some clout in the job market – magazines like Heat, Kerrang! And Grazia, law firms like Reed and, obviously, technology companies like O2 Telefonica.
Most positions pay expenses so you needn’t worry about funding yourself and, if you look carefully enough, you’ll find some to be a bit more lucrative.
They also blog and offer job advice tips among other things so it’s a hub of information for those looking to climb aboard the employment ladder.
