Regardless of what degree you intend to graduate with, everybody is capable of earning a high wage if they work hard enough. However, if you are curious as to whether your degree will help you reap big financial rewards in the future, here are the 10 highest paying degrees, and the lowest one too.
1. Medicine and Dentistry
It is not surprising being one of the longest and most grueling courses available, graduates from medicine and dentistry disciplines are heavily compensated with generous financial rewards. On average people working in this discipline will be earning £40,000 after 3 years, with most dentists and doctors earning even higher than this. So if you’re a person that squeals at the thought of having to deal with sick patients’ every day, just watch as that doctor drives out of the car park in one of his BMWs.
2. Veterinary Science
Love animals? You’ll be rewarded for that. Veterinary Science is highly regarded as being one of the best paid degrees, with earnings of over £30,000 in the early graduate years. So you may get a few scratches and bites from time to time, but you are certainly well compensated for that.
3. Engineering and Technology
Almost every engineering degree out there will set you up for life. Civil engineers, for example, are high in demand and are offering packages earning you at least £37,000 a year! If you’re really creative with your projects, you’ll be reeling in the big bucks.
4. Mathematical Sciences
Are you a serious number cruncher? Can you calculate complicated sums in your head whilst your friends look at you in awe? If so, employers really want to reward you! Be it teaching or working out statistics for Government projects, even you will be struggle to calculate the nice fortune you’ll be earning.
5. Computer Science
If you are a computer whiz kid, you’ll never have any money problems! Computer Science graduates are in serious demand, with employers battling each other to obtain the best bunch around. As a result, you can earn a healthy starting salary of £25,000 and above.
6. Law
Although starting salaries in this area aren't the highest, as you progress, your income will rapidly increase. Solicitors and Barristers are some of the most highly paid professionals around. Get your wigs on. It’s certainly worth it.
7. Architecture, Building and Planning
If you can draw a decent plan for a house, you’ll do well in life. The industry of building and planning is heavily profitable. A graduate architect can earn in and around £25,000 from the get go. If you’re really skillful and can make a house from scratch, you’ll also be rewarded for all that heavy lifting.
8. Business and Administration
Studying business offers you a huge amount of paths, and most of them will slide you into a pot of gold. From Accountants to Marketing Managers, there is no shortage of money in business. If you’re really keen on working up the ladder, becoming a Chief Executive of a business can earn you anything from £45,000 up to £137,000 a year, now that isn't bad at all.
9. Education
Not only do teachers get longer holidays, they are also get paid generously for passing on their knowledge to children who don’t want to learn. Become a lecturer and you’ll be able to swim in your giant pool of cash during your even longer holidays.
10. Aviation Management
Would you like to travel the world and earn a lot of money? Becoming a pilot certainly allows you to do this. Although not every pilot gets a degree, it is worthwhile studying to fast track you up the ladder to where the money is to be made.
And finally the award for the lowest paying degree goes to…
Art. Even if you happen to be the next Pablo Picasso, breaking into the art industry is an extremely tough business, thus if you don’t succeed you can expect a salary of less than £20,000 a year. However, it’s important to remember that there is no point picking a career just for the sake of earning a high salary. Do what you love, as it will make you determined to succeed! |
