Your bank account’s on -£2K, all the pot noodles are empty, and the crippling pointlessness of your own existence is starting to settle in. Summer is here! Hurray! You’re back in with your parents now, after leaving the safety of the nest so you can pretend to be an adult for a year.
Without a doubt, summer break is the best. However, if you’re anything like the majority of the student population, you'll be flat-broke by this point. Did you sort yourself out a job for the summer? No, of course you didn't - so let me lay down some of the best jobs you can jump into for a few months. This will avoid the standard summer procedure of wallowing in unemployment and self-pity whilst waiting for your student loans to come in.
Call Centres

Soul destroying, yes. Do you care? Maybe. Money though. That's the only reddening factor of this job. Anybody that says they enjoy persuading people to buy things they don't want all day over the phone is lying to themselves. If you’re looking for something a bit fun over the summer, don't bother. If anything though, this is a learning experience of why you don't want to drop out of uni and end up in a job like this. However, keep in mind: MONEY! Lots of it, too, if you get good at it.
Events Staff/Stewarding

Amazing job! You literally get paid to get driven to events and stand around all day, pretending you know what you’re doing. The best part is, half the time you don't even have to know what your doing, you just make it up as you go along. You also get to have a few sneaky peaks at a footy match or a concert while you work. The pay isn't great, but it's worth the minimum wage just for the adventure.
Stock Taking

A bit like stewarding in the sense that you get to travel around the UK to work. However, it's nowhere near as glamorous. Rather than standing around at festivals in a fancy coat, you'll spend most of your time cooked up in a cold warehouse until the early hours of the morning. Still a good shout though if there's any vacancies in your area. This is a really easy job to get, most the time you don't even need experience.
Bar Staff

A little repetitive, but as with anything it's all a matter of perspective. Think of all the interesting drunk people you'll meet. If you’re a social person, you won't find this too bad. However, if you’re a more introverted, ‘don't like small talk’ sort of person, then this may be your worst nightmare.
Them annoying people that stand on the street

No, I'm not talking about taking up a career as a professional hobbo, we haven't got that bad yet. However, it may resort to that, it depends on how well your parents look after you. Jokes aside, what I'm actually talking about are those really annoying people that come up to you on the street trying to get you to sign up to campaigns and stuff. This is a hit and miss sort of job. If you believe in the cause that you’re promoting then it can be quite satisfying. However, if you’re being made to pawn off shoddy merchandise, then it can slowly eat your soul away. Don't let that discourage you though, it can be a great learning experience either way.
Retail

Real grim stuff. You can tell by all the depressing memes people in retail post on Facebook. There's nothing inherently wrong with stacking shelves for a bit of cash, but it is THE definition of dull. You can lose your mind along the aisles of Asda quicker than you can in the middle of an exam hall. Stay well away if you want to do something satisfying part-time, along with call centres, it can get pretty depressing staying in the same place, doing the same things, day in and day out.
Decisions, Decisions.../p>
It's summer! It's summer! We can worry about all them re-sits later, when you’re sat in the pub having a mental breakdown early August. Get yourself a nice cosy job for a few months and go back to uni in September with two things. Some money, and a stark reminder of why you’re getting a degree.
